JOS Q&A with Les Klinger (Virtual Meeting)

August 9 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Greetings, fellow Sherlockians! We’re thrilled to share some exceptionally exciting news: Les Klinger, the renowned literary editor, attorney, and author of the unparalleled multi-volume New Annotated Sherlock Holmes, has graciously agreed to join us for a virtual discussion!
Many thanks to Dr. Bruce Parker (an invested BSI member who attends our JOS meetings whenever he’s in Houston) for passing our humble request along to Mr. Klinger. We’re very much obliged, sir!
This meeting will be held using ZOOM Professional (thanks, Christina!). If you’d like to attend, please drop us a message here on the website or via email to [email protected], and we’ll forward the details to you.
In order to maximize our time with Mr. Klinger, we’ll forego most of our usual Sherlockian gossip time. We will discuss the quiz results again, though!
– Introductions / Socialization
– Q&A with Les Klinger
– Quiz Results: The Adventure of the Reigate Squire
– Traditional Closing: Asimov limerick & Starrett poem
Per discussion in our last meeting about the controversy surrounding Enola Holmes, the new Netflix production which has become the subject of a copyright infringement lawsuit filed by the Conan Doyle estate, it’s clear that many of us are curious to learn more about the family’s chronic litigiousness. Mr. Klinger is eminently well-placed to discuss that topic, having tangled with them himself, and that’s where we’re tentatively planning to start the discussion.
However, copyright lawsuits needn’t be the ONLY topic for discussion. If you have a burning question you’d like to ask Mr. Klinger, please forward it to the Pips here on the website or via email ([email protected]). We’ll compile and curate the questions, share them with Mr. Klinger in advance, then facilitate the meeting itself to keep the discussion mostly organized.
Like last time, our quiz can be taken online in Google Forms prior to the meeting, and we’ll discuss only the results. Again, shoot us a message here or an email if you’d like to participate. Plan to give the Reigate Squire a quick refresher if necessary, but as usual, this is a closed-book honor-system quiz intended for amusement and bragging rights only – please don’t cheat!
That’s it! We’re excited about this opportunity to speak with one of the Holmesian world’s most illustrious minds, and we hope you’ll be able to join us!
